This project deals with perspective and the experience of moving along a long space by using a London tube corridor as a site. Anamorphosis was used to create projections in 2D and to deconstruct the geometries which eventually formed new spaces. Anamorphosis is a distorted projection requiring the viewer to occupy a specific vantage point, but in this project, I was more interested in the perception of space outside the vantage point, which is 99% of the experience in the space.
Design Process
The design process starts with a 2D graphic of a staircase leading up and rings to give the illusion a depth tricking the eye that there is a walkway at the end of the staircase. The flat image is then projected over and cut through the space where all the projection lines lead to the vantage point. The tube is deconstructed into a new space with
new geometries of different sizes and shapes than the original tube, as a result of scaling the cut pieces with the vantage point as a reference point. New architectural elements are added to make the new space function.
